Via Birmingham, The Grand Union and the tidal Thames (Brentford - Teddington)

Weather and Water Levels Permitting !

Poynton - Birmingham 17th - 21nd August

Macclesfield Canal to Red Bull Jnc, then onto theTrent and Mersey to Harecastle Tunnel. Harecastle Tunnel is a single bore and is now operated on a Convoy basis controlled by tunnel keepers, transit takes around 1hr 15min and we may have to wait up to 2 hours for traffic in the opposite direction.
Continuing down the Trent & Mersey past Great Haywood jnc, then via the Staffs and Worcs to Autherley, Aldersley and via Wolverhampton to Birmingham on the BCN. Overnight in Birmingham 21st Aug for a Curry.

Birmingham - London (Uxbridge) 22rd - 29th August

Worcester & Birmingham to Kings Norton Jnc, then down the Stratford Canal to Lapworth before joining the broad Grand Union. On the Grand Union via the imposing Hatton flight then via Warwick, Braunston, Blisworth and Hemel to London.

Andrew has kindly provided a Google earth plot file for the section of the route from Birmingham to Tring which can be downloaded from here He has included all the locks as individual way points, but did comment there were a lot !, wait untill he has to work them :-)

 

Uxbridge - Aldermaston 30th August - 2nd September

Grand Union to Brentford, where we need to wait for the incoming tide and depart at approx 15:00 via Thames Lock and onto the Tidal River Brent and R.l Thames to Teddington. Then Thames to Reading and Kennet and Avon back to Aldermaston.
