Crick to Macclesfield

19th May - 3rd June 2007

The Trip

From Crick on the Leicester section of the Grand Union to Braunston, then via the North Oxford, Coventry, Trent and Mersey and Maccelsfield canal to Higher Poynton. Full route availiable here.

Day 1 Monday 28th May Crick - GU West of Norton Jnc.

Wet and windy

13 Lock Miles (6 miles 7 locks)

A very wet and windy day, fortunatly with the rain easing in the afternoon when we started the trip back.

Day 2 Tuesday 29th May Norton Jnc to Ansty

Sunny spells, rain showers, sometimes together ! cold and windy

31 lock miles (22 miles 9 locks)

Started at 7:00 and passed through Braunston Tunnel before decending the 6 broad locks at Braunston and visiting the chandlrey to obtain coal, becoming esential in this weather ! Also purchased a new "topbox" a custom designed storage box for the roof of the boat certainly helps to clear some of the selldome used items. Turned right at Braunston turn and headed up the North Oxford canal some 20 odd miles and only 3 locks. Stopped at Rugby to do some shopping at Tesco, even though the Nichlosons was its usual inaccurate self we managed to find it. Heading for Ansty but due to lack of mooring we ended up stoping a mile away.

Day 7 Sunday 3rd June Arrived Higher Poynton

After a week of wonderfull weather and stunning scenery we arrived on the Macclesfield Canal at Poynton. If I get the time I will fill in the rest of the blog and add the pictures.
