Chester to Leeds

via Huddersfield Canal

Week 1 Chester to Marple

17th - 24th July

Starting at Tattenhall near Chester then along the Shropshire Union stopping at the staircase at Bunbuy, then via Barbridge and the Middlewich branch to the Trent and Mersey . A detour north to Anderton for a trip down the Anderton Lift and onto the River Weaver for a short trip to the upper end of the navigation at Winsford. Returning via the Anderton lift and back onto the T&M to travel south to Kidsgrove where we join the Macclesfield canal to Marple.

 

Week 2  Marple to Leeds

24th July to 1st Aug

from Marple via the Peak forest to Ashton to join the Huddersfield canal for the trip over the Pennines to Leeds.

Passage over the Pennines includes Standage tunnel the longest deepest tunnel in the UK canal system. Only 4 boats a day are allowed on only 3 days a week so passage is limited.

Chelonian is booked in for the 14:15 passage on Wed 28th July, but has to arrive at the tunnel to check in by 11:30AM. Boats passing through the tunnel west to East are required to wait at Marsden at the eastern end of the tunnel until the following day after passing through the tunnel.
